DIN Connectors

DIN connectors are 13.2mm in diameter and come in nine circular patterns. Probably the most common of these patterns is the five pin DIN connector shown here and used by legacy keyboards.

Mini-DIN Connectors

Mini-DIN connectors are 9.5mm in diameter and come in seven patterns, with the number of pins from three to nine.

The Mini-DIN connector, as the name suggests, are smaller in size than a regular DIN connector. The pins arranged in horizontal rows rather than in a circular pattern. Mini-DIN connectors are used for S-video connections, PS/2 mouse & keyboards, and some other applications. DIN and mini-DIN connectors are both held in place by the friction of the connector body and by pins.

Each pattern is keyed in such a way that a plug with one pattern cannot be mated with any socket of another pattern.

Non-standard mini-DIN connectors may have directly overlapping characteristics to each other or to the standard mini-DIN connectors.

Standard pin numbering: The pin numbering for the plugs shown above is done left to right, bottom row to top row. Pin 1 will be on the lower left, and the highest pin number will be on the upper right.

WARNING. This mini-DIN 9-pin connector spacing is not the standard mini-DIN; the standard has uniform spacing on the first row and non-uniform spacing on the second. This connector, although probably the most commonly used connector, is the non-standard 'B' connector, which is the cable we carry in stock.
